The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz achieved his first ATP Masters 1000 finals in 13 months with a hard fought victory of 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 over Countryman Alejandro Davidovich Fokin in Monte-Carlo Masters.
Alcaraz, the ruling French Open champion, has reached its first final at this level since victory in Indian Wells in March 2024.
The 21 -year -old man came to the top in a quality competition against the world 42 to become 12.
“It’s been a long time,” Alcaraz said of his 13 -month absence in the Masters 1000 finals. “I just had to be patient and believe that this moment would come again.
“Sometimes people aren’t patient, they want me to do the finals in every tournament. I’m really glad to give them a chance to watch one of my finals again.
“I think I played really good tennis from the beginning to the last point,” Alcaraz added.
“I tried to take advantage of the chance he gave me in the match. He saved a lot of points and match points, but I’m really happy to think about myself (most important). The most important thing is that I feel great.”

The second seed of Alcaraz considered it difficult to break Davidovich Fokin, in 19 attempts he only succeeded three times, and also wasted three set points in the opening set, which lasted over an hour.
Davidovich Fokina was inseitive in his defensive game, but Alcaraz raised his service in the second set, in which he faced a single point of the break, but not before his Spanish countryman saved five match points at an exhausting meeting.
If Alcaraz demands his first Monte-Carlo crown and the sixth Masters 1000 title on Sunday, Alexander Zvereva as World No 2 on Monday.
