STREET. Louis -owen Michaels scored two goals of the third period to close the first frozen four championship in Michigan on Saturday evening over the victory of 6-2 over the University of Boston.
Iiro Hakkaainen and Wyatt Schingoethe had a goal and helped everyone, with those Henricks and Cole crusberg-acheen also scored to limit the broncos first frozen four appearance in the 52-year history of the program. Hampton Slukynsky stopped 24 shots and the best deployed western Michigan (34-7-1) closed his best known season with 10 direct victories.
Broncos reached the final when Michaels, who played two seasons in the North American hockey league and has no NHL contract, scored his second goal for 26 seconds into double overtime to win 3-2 over the defense of Denver champion in the semifinals on Thursday evening.
During the defeat of the five -time Terriers Champion, Broncos became the fourth program that won the title in the debut of the Championship, joined Denver (1958), Cornell (1967) and Lake Superior State (1988).
Western Michigan also made three to three for Michigan teams that won the tournament when it took place in St. Louis, after Michigan State won in 2007 and Michigan Tech in 1975.
The victory did not come easily. The terriers seemed to have reduced the lead to 4-3 and there were 8:04 pm when Matt Copponi stuck into the bouncing through the Slovesky leg. Although Replays clearly showed that the puck passed through the line, the goal was forbidden because the whistle was blowing.
Cole Eiserman and Shane Lachance, a view of New Jersey Devilsscored at the University of Boston (24-14-2). Mikhail Yegorov, also a prospect of New Jersey, stopped 22 shots in first -class goalies matches.
