“When I think about my journey and 18 seasons in the rugby league, I have so much gratitude for the game itself,” Waerea-Hargreaves said.
“Rugby League gave me the honor of representing my country, lifelong friends and memories that I will weigh forever.
“For Manly, thank you for giving me your first opportunity as an 18 -year -old. To Roosters, My Home. Thank you Robbo, Nick and all who were part of my time in the club, your support and leadership shaped me into the player and more importantly, the men I am today.
“To my current Hull Kr, thank you for giving my family and I have this opportunity. It has exceeded all our expectations and I look forward to completing the 2025 season with boys.
“I was incredibly lucky for fans that I was supported wherever I played. Thank you for your support over the years.
“Finally, my wife, children and family. Thank you for your steady support at every step.
Waerea-Hargreaves, who now in his final campaign, took part in everyone except one of the competing Robins games in 2025 because he is trying to complete his career at a high level.
He won 22 caps for New Zealand, including several Rugby League cups and also play an important role in Kiwis’s run to the finals in 2013.
Chief coach Hull Kr Willie Peters appreciated Waere-Hargreaves for his heritage in sports and what he brought to Robins.
“First of all, Jared is a family man, a men’s leader and a really good man. He is probably one of the best leading rows of all time,” Peters said.
“Jared’s standards are there with the best I have seen. Helps every day in Hull KR drive our level of culture and intensity.
“This is a fully decision of Jared at the end of the season. In fact, we went to Amsterdam and that was the first time we talked about it. When we talked around 2026, Jared said he decided and said by the end of the season that it would be time.
“Jared deserves retiring for his conditions. She must go out for his game and do it at the moment.”
