Villa headed for accessories aimed at a 3-1 deficit on the aggregate after defeat at the Parc des Princes last week before admitting two early goals to Achraf Hakimim and Nuno Mendes in the opening 30 minutes of the second stage in Villa Park.
The Youi Tiemon’s efforts have pulled out one back in front of the half-time, Captain John McGinn and Ezri Konsa hit in the space two minutes after restart to put off an exciting surface with a gently 5-4 in the tie.
Villa had a chance to draw a level through Marco Asensio, play against his parent club and Konos, but eventually did not reach before leaning from the competition with their heads that were high.
“I’m very proud of everything we did,” Emery said Amazon Prime.
“You want to get to this level, the best step forward to where I want to be with Aston Villa.
“We competed well in the first leg, but not enough. Today we were even better and we were approaching. The last step forward is still (missing), and that’s the only (aspect) that I want to work for our process.”
Villa is now facing a short turnover before another decisive clash because colleagues hosted the Champions League Champions, Newcastle Champions League, Live on Sky Sportsthis Saturday. Magpies are currently sitting fourth, two points in front of Villa in the seventh, the game in hand.
Emery continued his press conference: “Players showed capacity. We defeated Bayern Munich and we won tonight, players showed their ability at this level, they are here because they deserve to be here and face matches like today.
“I want a club with the same challenges I have – by adding better players, if we need it – so proud of these players, convinced that we will get our goals until the last match we face.”
McGinn: We have passed a long way
Captain Villa started the recovery of the second half after he went deep to the middle of PSG and fired to the upper corner. It insists that despite the omission of the competition, the team can be proud of their efforts and the way they were.
McGinn signed Villa of Hibernian in 2018 and played a major role in their rise from the second level of English football to the European Elite competition.
“Obviously disappointment, but I’m proud of my teammates, proud of the club,” he said Amazon Prime. “We’ve gone a long journey. We were so close this evening. We’re just a little short.
“We had a chance to take the game for extra time, but we have to be proud of how we returned against one of the best teams in the world to fight to the end.
“We want more. We want to return here next season and try to do it.”
When he asked what Emery said in the middle of the time, when his party was still staring at the 5-2 deficit on the aggregate, McGinn added, “He said,” I’m proud of the show, continue, you just never know. “
“We never gave up. It was chaos, but we gave absolutely everything and I think every Aston Villa supporter will leave with a huge feeling of pride.”
KONSA: We’ll get back!
Konsa repeated the claim of his manager and captain, as well as referring to the chance he missed when the cross Marcus Rashford blinked through the face of the goal, but the defender could not make the necessary connection from the point.
“I’m proud of the boy,” Konsa said. “Two goals at the beginning killed us, but we showed a great faith and character to return to it. We won the other leg, but it wasn’t enough.
“We felt we had nothing to lose in half -time. We wanted to go there and prove a point. We had chances, I think I scored the hardest. I don’t think we could do. I missed the ball (for my head)
“Donnarumma has done some excellent savings. Today we showed that we can compete at the highest level and want to do it again next season.”
Enrique: PSG dominated in this way
PSG chief Luis Enrique acknowledged the lively performance of Villa and even claimed that he had not seen the team “dominated” his party in this way before traveling to West Midlands.
“I do not think that this team was dominated by the team in this way, but the opponent had to risk because they were based on the competition.
“They attacked the real intensity and also in front of the big crowd. To improve with this experience.
“I wasn’t happy at the end of the first half. We played at a level that didn’t fit on the Champions League. Then we really suffered in the second half and Villa had a chance to cope.”
