George Williams: Captain Warrington Wolves up to 10 weeks with ankle injury Rugby League Messages

Captain Warrington George Williams faces up to 10 weeks after he learned that he requires ankle surgery, the Super League announced.

Half back, which was still present in the league this season, was injured in the last stages last Saturday 28-16 for Hull at the Halliwell Jones stadium.

Williams will certainly miss the semifinals Wolves’ Challenge Cup against Leigh 11 May and could face the race against time to be suitable for the finals, if his party did, June 7.

A statement from Warrington was: “George Williams will undergo an ankle injury that will keep our captain moved for another eight to 10 weeks.”

Head coach Warrington Wolves Sam Burgess said he was “gutted” for Williams, and although not replaceable on their side, someone gives someone the opportunity to come and play their own game.

“It’s not good. Tomorrow he’s going to surgery and will be out for eight to 10 weeks,” Burgess said.

“It’s on his ankle. I don’t want to go to too much detail but will have an operation.

“It’s unstable. It has happened in the last four to five minutes of Saturday’s game that is disappointing. This is a game.

“It’s positive about it and looks at his return and hopefully he can return.

George Williams provided excellent help in securing Toby King for Warrington against St. Helens

“And he’s thinking about ways to help the group. We’ll handle it as a club.

“I’m gutted for George. He’s playing some great rugby and getting a certain consistency.

“It is obvious that he and Marc built a combination with Danny Walker and Sam Powell.

“Whenever there is an injury, there are always opportunities for someone else. This gives someone else a role to go through and take over.”
