Chelsea are moving in the right direction and evolving the style of playing that will help them in the long run, Coach Enzo Maresca said on Wednesday in the passionate defense of their players who were weighed at the weekend.

Although they fell to sixth in the ranking, Maresco said he had a “100%” belief in its approach and added that its group was improving when it chases the semifinals of Europa Conference League when it hosts Legia Warsaw on Thursday.
“What happened last year, two years ago, I wasn’t here, I don’t have an idea-now, because it’s difficult. But this season we’re (we’re getting better),” Maresca said in front of the second leg where Chelsea has 3-0 leadership.
“I think we can achieve the European semifinals. Yes, it is definitely not the Champions League, but in the end it is a European competition.
“We were the first four for almost the whole season. Compared to the last two seasons, where the team was zero (v) the best four. I think it is quite clear that the direction is the right one, the style is the right one.”
Maresca said he wouldn’t hear the abuse of the crowd, but he added that the support of fans was essential for the progress of a team that she believed to take a step next season.
“I think football belongs to fans because they are the main part. And as a team, as a club, when your fans support you, it is important because players can receive this feeling,” he said.
“So when I say we have to engage them, it’s that we have to play in the right way, create chances, try to score goals. Because eventually if you shoot goals for mood changes for all.
“Most games at home, fans were the best – fantastic team support. In some games, at some moments like the last one, they weren’t happy. So we have to be good enough to get them back.”
