Strange things can happen in the boxing ring.
Who knows what went through Steve McCarthy’s mind when Tony Wilson’s mother entered the ring to hit him with a shoe?
Or what did Evander Holyfield think of when the parachutist collided with the ropes behind the Riddick Bowe?
Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron did not know what they thought when they found themselves upside down in the fifth round of the first struggle, airy and falling head into a circular apron in an ugly tangle.
“As it happened, it was so fast. I didn’t even feel the ropes, if I’m honest, it was the weak and other thing you know I’m on the floor,” Whittaker said Sky Sports.
Cameron advanced and pushed into Whittaker when the Olympic silver medalist backed up towards the ropes.
Cameron is not sure how they fallen. “He retreated. Sky Sports.
“I couldn’t control myself because he had tucked arms. Actually, I couldn’t put my hands down because they held him. It happened so fast, one minute we boxed, we walked over the ropes next minute.”
Whittaker mocks the idea that they both pulled them out of the ring.
“It was mad,” he said. “When you look back, the ropes were down, my neck was on the floor. It was strange. But people have always come out with these stupid phrases:” Oh, he did it. “
“At the end of the day I am a professional, come back and do what I have to do professionally.”
Whittaker and Cameron are leading in BP Pulse Live Arena in Birmingham on Sunday Sky Sports.
After the fall of the ring in the first fight, Cameron managed to climb back through the ropes to continue the box. But Whittaker stayed down. Since Cameron has been strongly criticized since he had not proceeded. But Whittaker was injured.
“I’m a little blessed, it was just my ankle, because it could have been much worse. It could be possible, as I landed on my neck at the beginning,” Whittaker said.
“I probably couldn’t box again. So for me I’m glad I walked with it. Hopefully it won’t happen again and we have to have a trilogy. That would be typical!”
The real problem for him was the ankle injury. “Because I had previous injuries before they were worried about them, but in fact it was my ankle,” Whittaker said.
“He did rehabilitation, did what I had to do, and from there we moved and now it’s strong.”
With Whittaker unable to continue, the match went to a technical decision based on a bike that has passed and a draw was recorded.
But Cameron was adamant that he deserved more.
“It was strange because I still had emotions of fighting and I think it’s, it’s gone? It took me forever to make a decision,” he recalled.
“You could say he had two laps, the rest for me. I looked at him first, tried to give me everything. He overcame me the first round but I left him.
“(I finally wondered what was going on? I won?
Cameron claims that Whittaker felt under pressure in this first fight.
“He was very tired of two or three rounds. And I remember that you think it is a bluff or what? It was obvious. I thought I wouldn’t put it on and then fought,” said warrior Sheffield.
“The making of sounds, pushing out his shots, and there was nothing in them, and I thought he was (exhausted). Then we set out on the ropes.”
Whittaker is determined to settle the score when he gets married on Sunday.
“That’s a funny thing. Many people do Liam something that isn’t,” Whittaker insisted.
“What did he actually do to make him speak? The thing he made him talk about was the end result and flew through the ropes.
“People saw me up to 10 I was probably one or two in the ring. I still think he was fighting with it,” Whittaker added.
“For me, 10/10 or 8/10 Ben is a completely different job.”
Lucky Draw?
The former world title Challenger and Sky Sports The Matt Macklin box expert said, “At that time I had a level of fighting.”
However, he added: “The fighting pattern, running the game, as they are called in football, did not get Whittaker, Cameron got to the top. It was one of those crazy incidents where they both went through the rope, and I don’t know how anyone could know how he felt and hurt his back.
“These things can happen in the ring, I don’t think he tried to pull him over the rope. I think he was leaning, leaning and body weight and momentum.
“I don’t know how anyone might know how he felt. I saw it just like anyone else, I can’t tell you if he hurt his back or is in pain. I think it probably turned out for him, because the fight began to crumble a little and Cameron was definitely upstairs and get more upstairs.
“This means he didn’t try to do it, the incident just happened. He couldn’t do it again – he couldn’t do it if he tried it!
“I don’t know whether he was injured or not, but I would say there is a very good chance that he was after falling in this way.
“After the show, I think he is aware that he probably got with a draw. Whether it is sometimes public, who knows, but he knows deep that he got away.”
