Mercedes ‘excited’ about the improved beginning of the F1 2025 season in front of the Japanese general practitioner and Target McLaren in development pressure | F1 News

Mercedes was resurrected by their promising beginning of the new Formula 1 season with a “more predictable” car – although they do not expect the “real order” to be clear after the upcoming triple races.

“But what we have also seen is that McLaren is probably the team that beats. Max (Verstappen) is quite fast. Ferrari certainly doesn’t seem to be far and have been a bit unlucky in the last few races.

“So it’s a pretty tight struggle on the front. We’re working hard to try to bring development in the car, because, as I said, we think we have to close this gap especially to McLaren.”

Shovlin added: “It is simply exciting to start the season with a car that works well, that drivers enjoy driving. It’s much more predictable and we look forward to the rest.”

Despite the last season he won four races with Russell and Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes finished fourth in the constructors’ championship – their lowest placement since 2012 – with their campaign a relaxed car, which experienced wild fluctuations in the form of track and weather conditions.
