George Russell says he feels “no stress” compared to his continuing waiting for a new Mercedes agreement because they believe that long -term contracts in Formula 1 “mean nothing”.
The 27 -year -old British driver is in the last year of his current agreement with silver darts, with the absence of an extension particularly remarkable because of his strong performances.

RUSSELL: Some rumors “reasonably close” to the truth
Russell performed an extremely strong start of his 2025 campaign and scored three stage in the opening four rounds to sit only 14 points from McLaren’s Lando Norris on the top of the ranking.

Russell replied, “Rumors are never so true that they are.
“When you said rumors, I really didn’t listen so much. A few of them are reasonably close, I think, but at the end of the day we never talked about the contract before May or June in the season.”
The triple Grand Prix winner then explained why he considered signing a long -term contract to be essential.

He said, “I would say that the most unusual point is how many drivers have some long -term shops.
“But they all have an output provision, all of them got a power clause. A driver who has a three -year contract does not really mean anything if they have an output provision, or the team has a provision if the driver does not perform. This does not mean much.
“If you have a contract with the team, but the team wants you to leave, the team will find a way to get you.
“This sport works, so it should work because we were 20 of the best in the world and it’s ruthless. There’s no time to play. All you can do is concentrate on a quick ride.”
