Snoker Great Ronnie O’Sullivan says he has lost his “instinctivity” and that he’s “pretty scary” before the World Championship
Ronnie O’Sullivan said he lost his “instinctivity” as a snooker player and revealed that he felt “quite scary” before the start of the World Championship.
O’Sullivan painted a bleak picture of his chances to get a record eighth title of the World Championship and claims that the opponent of the first round of Ali Carter starts as a favorite when he gets his 33.

The 49-year-old believes that he still counts on the cost of trying to change his style of playing and says that there has been a “scary” realization that he could never restore a form that has seen him generally recognized as the best player in the history of the game.
O’Sullivan said, “I tried a new technique six years ago, and I think it stopped playing as I used to, and I don’t know how to go back to somewhere close to how I want to play.
“I’m not sure whether he is repaired at this stage of his career, but I will give him a few years to try to rediscover the way to play, where I feel like I could hit the ball. At the moment it is quite scary – the white ball does things I have never seen before.
O’Sullivan did not play competitively since January
“I have lost the instinctivity and what I see when I am on the shot is not good. Everyone has days when they lose their timing, but when you compare it for four years, it’s quite difficult – where do you start giving it right?”
O’Sullivan normally spoke of his chances of winning world titles, especially when he was defeated after Carter’s advisor in their second finals in 2012, only after 12 months to win it in 2013.
But after a number of main tournaments, including Masters in January, decided to miss the latest concerns of O’Sullivan are somewhat more justified.
O’Sullivan says his colleagues have a seed and former finalist Barry Hawkins to thank for taking him to Sheffield to give him another shot.
“A month ago I got a little bored, so I got a hint of my case and I thought, just exercise,” added O’Sullivan.
“Obviously I got to this tournament and Barry gave me a little support. I had a few training sessions with Barry and he gave me a good shelter I expected. But Barry told me you don’t play as bad as you think you’re.”
The Snooker World Championship runs from Saturday 19th April to Monday 5th May
O’Sullivan’s draw against Carter’s risks rules the famous dispute between two former practical partners, with a couple in 2018 in 2018, while O’Sullivan insisted that Carter had to “sort his life” after defeating him last year’s Masters final.
But “rocket” hit a conciliation tone on Friday and insisted, “Ali is a great player, had some good seasons and found some form again. You probably have to get Ali’s favorite, but if I can try to make a game that is great.”
The ruled world champion Kyren Wilson will get this year’s event on Saturday when he plays against Lei Peifan, one of the record 10 Chinese players in the draw. Former winners Mark Williams and Neil Robertson are also in action on the start day.
