All Scottish clubs of premiere playing in European playoffs will be able to request postponing one particular league match after the new policy approved by Scottish Professional Football League Board.
The step to strengthen their preparations for the tie will have all the clubs involved in the Champions League, Europa League or the playoffs of the Conference League playoffs on the weekend of home accessories on the weekend of 23.-24. August, which falls among the first and second legs.
The SPFL statement on Tuesday was: “The SPFL Working Group in competitions examined how the league could best support clubs to achieve the UEFA league phase in the middle of an extremely overloaded accessory calendar, for additional data for UEFA competitions from this season.
“The competition group for competitions includes a number of best clubs-unanimously issued a recommendation to the SPFL Council to introduce a policy that allows any club to participate in the UEFA playoffs to ask for SPFL to postpone its William Hill Prime Minership-Three-Three-Three.
“To date, any such postpone would require an agreement of the rival club and the league. The new policy that has the support of SPFL partners has been approved by the SPFL Council for the 2025/26 season.”
Scotland has five representatives in Europe for the next term and everyone could take place in the playoffs. This season, Hearts faced Victoria Plzen in the European League playoffs, while Kilmarnock met Copenhagen in the playoffs of the conference league. Both Scottish sides were defeated by an aggregate.
Operating Director of SPFL Calum Beattie said: “Of course we want to support our clubs in the UEFA league phase.
“There are huge advantages that our clubs have in the last stages of European football. Not only does it help the Scottish UEFA coefficient and the reputation of our league, but there are clear business benefits for competitive clubs, as well as important solidarity payments for our uninterested clubs.”
Next season, the Premiership winners will go to the Playoff Champions League, while the runners will enter the qualifying round.
The third-place team will start at the European League playoffs if the Scottish Cup winners won the Premiership winners, while there will be two other representatives in the qualification of the second round of Europa League and qualify the second round.
